Buckhead Grill

Although it has been a while since we have posted on our blog, fret no more! While we had taken the holidays off to spend time with family and friends (and a long time at that), we have brought you, our readers, a new review. We promise to make every attempt from now, going forward, to bring you at least one review every month, so please look forward to these in the future!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will start the year off with a great review, for a great restaurant! Earlier this month (January), we went to Buckhead Grill on Armour Road. This was an excellent choice for dinner, as it was very high-class, yet calm and cozy. As you will see from our review below, we felt as though this experience was one that should be repeated again in the future.

To start the evening off, we were greeted by a wonderful host that made us feel as though we were old friends and valued guests. We were sat promptly in a very large booth, which is great, because we are all people who like to have elbow room to enjoy our food! Our server was Emmanuel, who greeted us quickly after we sat down, and proceeded to explain the menu's that Buckhead had, including the regular menu and the Wine and Drink Menu (which contains an All Night Bird Special listing of entrée items!). They call it the "All Night Bird" because these specials are available all night, just at a certain time! The menu was short (one page), and was included a wonderful selection of entrees, from cheeseburgers to a rack of elk.

When the time came for us to order our meal, Emmanuel was very helpful in explaining the items that we had selected. While there seemed to be a lack of appetizer selections on the menu (and almost all of them included seafood of some sort), we were able to find one that I (Ryan) was able to eat (as I don't like seafood). We decided on the California Nachos for our appetizer, and we were very surprised when it came out, it was HUGE! The appetizer was very good tasting, and had a menagerie of flavors with pita chips, cheese, California sauce, and pico de gallo. This appetizer was amazingly good, and was enough to fill up even the hungriest of people! We were pleasantly surprised when Emmanuel brought out a complimentary amuse bouche from chef, which was a crusted tostini with seafood dip (which even Ryan enjoyed).

The decor inside Buckhead Grill was very pleasant and modern, had such a good atmosphere that no other restaurant in Columbus can compare to. With two fireplaces, a full bar, and ample seating, Buckhead is a prime choice for a dinner out with family or friends.

For our entrees, we each got a different one, and below you will see how we scored the entrees, and find out the reasons that each of us gave when determining our score.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John - Ribeye 16oz with mashed potatoes - Everything was excellent, the ambience was very enjoyable. The staff was very professional, knowledgeable, and attentive. Though it was a little on the pricey side, it was well worth every penny. Rating - 1 Full Fork

Deb - Bacon Filet Mingon with Domino Potatoes - The meal was very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed the appetizers. The flavors paired well in the appetizer as well as the entrée. There are so many places to spend your money here in Columbus, that it is nice to go to a restaurant that appreciates your business as much as they do. It was a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Rating - 1 Full Fork

Ed - New Zealand Elk Rack -  Elk was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Rissoto was excellent and overall was the best dining experience in Columbus so far. As people who have lived here for several years and have experienced several venues, we wished that we had tried your establishment earlier.  Rating - 1 Full Fork

Ryan - The appetizer was succulent, and the salad was very tasty due to the complexity of flavors (including blue cheese!). The Ribeye was delectable and the mashed potatoes had very good flavor. I was very excited about the meal, and was definitely not disappointed. Rating - 1 Full Fork

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall Rating - 1 Full Fork - A Perfect Score. This is very difficult to achieve, and this establishment should be commended for being receiving this rating as our first place rated in the new year!

The Tavern At Main Street

The Tavern At Main Street was an excellent choice for a dinner that included very succulent and high class notes, in a layed back relaxed-type atmosphere. From Chef Mo, to the owners of The Tavern At Main Street, as well as the servers and bartenders, we felt as though this experience was one that must be repeated again, and again.

To start the evening off, we were a little disheartened to find out that since there was going to be a band playing at The Tavern a little later on in the night, the menu was only certain selections and not a full menu. Then, much to our delight, Chef Mo came to the table to talk with us, and told us that he would be able to cook anything off  of the regular menu as well. People always say personal service comes at a great price, and we can tell you that it was priceless to have Chef Mo walk us through the selection process.

When the time came for us to order our meal, Chef Mo again came out to the table to give us some suggestions, and we decided to go with the 16oz Ribeye. Ed was a little bit more hungry, and Chef Mo told us that he can special cut any size of Ribeye we wanted, and Ed was very happy to get a 20oz. Chef Mo was very accomidating, especially in light of a special dinner party that was planned, and really took the time to speak to us and to assist us in making selections throughout the meail

The decor inside The Tavern At Main Street was very updated, pleasant, and modern, and it made guests feel as though Columbus has started to "break the glass ceiling" in the resteraunt world. Our server, Katy, was very friendly and helpful. The food was brought out perfectly on time, and suggestions regarding wine were made by the Chef and our server Katy on pairings with the flavor profiles of the steaks we were about to eat.

For our entrees, we each got a different one, and below you will see how we scored the entrees, and find out the reasons that each of us gave when determining our score.

Ed - 20 oz Ribeye - Ed gave this dish, and the resteraunt as a whole a score of 1 full fork. Ed felt that this was one of the best meals that he has every had, and thought that everything from the appetizers to the end of the meal was very good. Ed believes that the ablility to special order a particular cut of steak that is cut to size and order right on premises is amazing. Ed also felt that for the quality of the meal (a 20oz Ribeye was only $30.00 and came with two sides), the price was perfect.

Deb - 12 oz Ribeye - Deb also gave this dish and resteraunt a score of 1 full fork. Deb felt that from the time in the door to the time that we left, the service was excellent. The food was beyond anything experienced in Columbus thus far. As a transplant that is now here permanently, I am excited about knowing there will be many future visits to this establishment. In today's economy, there are many choices, and it iis nice to have a place that offers top notch service and outstanding quality, all while appreciating your business.

John - 16 oz Ribeye - John's score of 1 full fork for this resteraunt really shows the outstanding service and quality that the Tavern at Main Street really has. John felt that we received impeccable customer service, great food at a great price, and that the Tavern at Main Street is definately a "must-do" for anyone in Columbus

Ryan - 16 oz Ribeye - Ryan gave a score of 1 full fork to the Tavern At Main Street, because the experience was simply amazing. This place was second to none here in the Columbus area (thus far!), the steak was cooked perfectly, and the entire meal was top notch. Ryan did not feel as though there were any flaws in this restearunt from the beginning of the meal to the end.

Overall Score for this Establishment:

*A Perfect Score of 1 Full Fork! This is very difficult to achieve, due to the complexities that must go into the experience, such as customer service, rate at which good arrives at the table, how the food actually tastes, etc. The Tavern at Main Street should be fully commended for their service to this community, and we urge everyone to try it!

Old Siam Thai Cuisine

We are pleased to present our first, of many, compliments and critiques of the local Columbus, Georgia dining establishments. We will start with Old Siam Thai Cuisine.

Overall, Old Siam is a VERY good resteraunt. While it did not receive perfect marks (which are reserved for only the most amazing establishments in both service and cuisine), our overall score of "3 out of 4" forks is a great start.

Our server was Jake, and the service that he provided to us was very good. His knowledge of the menu items was very in depth and potential beverage parings were made with the flavor profiles of the meals selected. Jake was also a friendly server.

For appetizers, we had the Pot Stickers (fried), and the Thai Spicy Wings. Both of these apps were great tasting, and were made in true Thai fashion. The spicy wings were very spicy (for those of you that like that sort of thing), and the pot stickers combined both meat and vegetables into one delectable little pocket of goodness.

For our entrees, we each got a different one, and below you will see how we scored the entrees, and find out the reasons that each of us gave when determining our score.

Ed: Seafood Curry - Ed scored this dish a 3/4 fork, with the reasoning being that for a mixed seafood dish, there was not alot of seafood in the entree.

Deb: Old Siam Fried Rice - Deb scored this dish a 3/4 fork, mainly because this dish was bland and underseasoned. This dish could have used more seasoning to make it a full and more delicious meal.

John: Pad Ped Catfish - John scored this dish a 3/4 fork, as the catfish could have been more crispier for a dish that featured fried catfish as a main part of the entree.

Ryan: Lad Na Noodles - Ryan Scored this dish a 3/4 fork, mainly because the sauce was very bland and could have used more seasoning, and the noodles were very difficult to eat due to their large size.
